The Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw is an iconic monolith dominating the skyline, a controversial symbol of a heavy past. A “gift from the Soviet people to the Polish nation” by Stalin, it was completed in 1955 by 3,500 Russian workers.
At 237 meters and 42 floors, it is Poland’s second-tallest building. Its architecture blends Socialist Realism with Polish Renaissance details, featuring over 550 ornamental sculptures. Inside, 3,000 rooms host a vibrant cultural life: theaters, museums, a cinema, universities, and even a pool.
The 30th-floor terrace, at 114 meters, offers a breathtaking view of the capital. Loved by some and resented by others as a sign of oppression, it is now a core part of Warsaw’s identity, a historical giant turned cultural hub.
